My son Chase couldn't go Trick-or-Treating because our cat scratched him in the eye the night before Halloween (it's all healed now and he is fine:)
My daughter Kaylee went trick-or-treating with her neighbor friends and came home with a plastic grocery bag so full of candy that the handle was nearly ripping off from the weight.
Me: "WOW Kaylee, you got a ton of candy! Where did you go trick-or-treating?"
Kaylee: "We went over by the high school, and the reason I got so much candy is because I told everyone my brother got scratched by Kitty in the eye and has to wear a patch and so he can't go trick-or-treating and so everyone gave me candy for Chase too! I got TWICE as much candy as my friends!"
Me: *thinking* "that was amazingly sweet for Kaylee to think of her brother considering they can't even look at each other without fighting."
*Chase rummaging through Kaylee's candy bag*
*Kaylee's head spinning like exorcist*
Kaylee: "CHASE! GET AWAY FROM MY CANDY! YOU CAN'T HAVE ANY! THAT'S MY CANDY! MOMMMMMMMMM!"
Me: *thinking* "it was a nice thought while it lasted"
